A good friend of mine from the UK and I were discussing my Napoleonic Imagi-Nation project centered around the Duchy of Arancia, an Italianate statelet. I was looking for artillery crews and some mounted generals to finish off some units.
Neil asked a few questions and he emailed me back with an offer to sculpt a couple of officers out of FIMO modelling clay. We settled on a "heroic" figure and a "reluctant" figure.
Today, these lads arrived at the Ducal estate.
Neil's "Grotesques", as he refers to the. "Reluctant" on the left, "Heroic" on the right.
New artillery crews. I will probably give them a slightly different uniform.
I cannot thank him enough for his generosity and consideration. The fact he was able to make the two mounted officers out of FIMO (aka Sculpey) is amazing to me. And that he was kind enough to send them was wonderful.
Thank you, Neil!
Way to go, Neil!
ReplyDeleteNow one of these days, Jon, I need to get into one of your amazing remote games so I can experience the hubbub in person.
DeleteYes, you should!
DeleteNice gesture, lots of talent.
ReplyDeleteIt was a very nice gesture and Neil has more talent than he will admit. I say that as someone who routinely glues his fingers together.
DeleteEric,
ReplyDeleteYou are more than welcome; the artillery crew were just going to be melted down anyway, so now they have a new lease of life - old soldiers never die!
The "Grotesques" are actually Sculpey as that's what I had available. I'm glad they arrived safely. If I was patient, I'd sculpt in Fimo / Sculpey like Anthony Barton does; he makes part figures, bakes them and then builds more Fimo on top before baking again. As he has said, it requires getting the temperature right - he uses a small oven. My baking is more of an exciting "how long do I leave them" exercise!
As I'm impatient, they get sculpted in one go from top down.
You are now in a select group of "Grotesque" owners. ...☺
Neil
And they shall have a special place in a separate bookcase, when not on the table, with other figures donated, painted or made by friends.
