It being Turkey Day here in Doodle Land, I have a day off from the warehouse. Before I trek over to Herself's family homestead for Thanksgiving dinner, I set up a test game for The Portable English Civil War rules kindly provided by Mr. Bob Cordery.
The Upcycled ECW Project is now table ready!
Six units per side, very vanilla flavoured, which is fine for now.
As I am getting ready to pop off to the wilds of Chester County, I managed to get in the first turn. Hopefully, I'll be able to get a couple of more turns done tonight when I return and finish the game on Saturday.
Until now, here's the board with both armies lined up awaiting their deployment turns.
A simple crossroads with a farm on one end and a manor house on the other. A hill and a wood.
So, let's see how this plays out.
Happy Thanksgiving!

Nice looking battlefield Eric. Hope your Thanksgiving went well
ReplyDeleteThank you MJT! Thanksgiving was a good day and I ate too much, as usual.

Looks great, very old school (and I mean that in the nicest possible way!) Hope the Turkey was good and the game goes well!
ReplyDeleteThank you David! I find I am enjoying the Old School look, though I may look to replace the foamboard with something less prone to warping. But I think the grid is enjoyable.

Happy belated Thanksgiving 2025! You know, often the simplest setups produce the best games. And this looks like it will fit the bill well.
ReplyDeleteAs an aside, the wilds of Chester County sound ideal for the holiday. My own mind turns to my formative years (1970s and 80s) in neighboring Berks Co. (District Township outside of Kutztown and Fleetwood) at this time each year.
Happy Day After!
Stokes
Stokes, thank you! I find inspiration from your simple terrain and set up, though there is no way I could paint the large number of figures per regiment as you do.

Looking forward to seeing how your game works out Eric.
ReplyDeleteI shall get pictures and a narrative up as soon as possible.
